    FAQs

We are looking forward to having you join us as we gather together in-person for worship. Here is what to expect before and during the service:

    • Highlands is located just east of Pima Rd on Pinnacle Peak Rd - get a map here
    • Our lobby, cafe, and other indoor congregating areas will be unavailable to maintain appropriate distancing.
    • Info Central will be located outdoors. We would love to meet you, you can ask questions, and for new guests as our gift to you, we will make a donation on your behalf to Feed My Starving Children to feed a malnourished child for 2 weeks.
    • Coffee will be served from the window outside the cafe.
    • Please maintain 6ft between family groups.
    • Hand sanitizer stations will be at tables when you enter the lobby
    • We encourage attendees to wear a face covering if you are able. Single-use masks will be available upon entering the lobby. More info about the CDC recommendations on face coverings is available here.
    • The sermon notes, bulletin, and everything you need to know will be available on the Highlands App. You can download the app before you arrive. iPhone Download - Android Download
    • Sanitized Bibles and giving envelopes will be located on tables as you enter the lobby.
    • All of our services will be family-style with birth-12th grade and individuals with special needs joining us in-service. There will be a table in the lobby with kids activities for them that relate to what we will be learning.
    • We know there are some of our friends with special needs that will not be able to join us in-service. Our special needs classroom is available for both children and adults with special needs during our Thursday at 6:45pm and Sunday at 10:45am services. You can reserve a spot for your child on our Special Needs page.
    • For moms with babies or nursing moms, a mom's room is available located at the north end of the worship center auditorium with a video feed of the church service.
    • Our services are also streamed live Sundays at 9:00 and 10:45am on our Highlands Live page. You may watch past Highlands sermons on our Sermon page.

We're thankful for the newly released guidance for church gatherings by both the CDC (read their guidance here) as well as from Arizona state health officials (read their guidance here) as churches throughout the Valley make plans to safely and carefully resume in-person gatherings during Arizona's Stay Healthy, Return Smarter, Return Stronger program.

As our staff prepares the Highlands Campus in keeping with those guidelines, we will be offering the option for people to attend worship services in person beginning June 4th and 7th.

Upon welcoming people back to in-person gatherings, Highlands will be following the guidelines and recommendations provided by the CDC specifically related to churches - you can view those recommendations here.

    • Physical Distancing - we will initially be limiting seating to 25% of our Worship Center’s capacity, seating every-other-row, and requiring three empty seats between family groups in seated rows. To help spread out our attendees, we'll be adding a service time on Thursdays at 6:45pm in addition to our regular Sunday services at 9:00 & 10:45am. We’ll also be asking the church family to let us know which service they plan to attend for planning purposes. More details will be made available as we approach the return to campus.

    • Lobby/Gathering Spaces - Our lobby, cafe and other indoor congregating areas will be unavailable to maintain appropriate distancing.  Info Central will be located outdoors to assist you with any questions.

    • Sanitization - Our facilities team will be sanitizing all high-touch areas (door handles, tabletops, etc.) constantly throughout our gatherings. Restrooms will be cleaned every 15 minutes. Hand sanitizer stations will be available for all attendees as they enter the Worship Center.

Masks will be worn by all of our staff and volunteers serving at entrance and seating areas. Though not required, we encourage all attendees to wear a face-covering if they are able in keeping with CDC recommendations.  Disposable masks will also be available at Worship Center entrances for any attendee who would like one.

    • Bulletins & Bibles - We will not be offering a printed bulletin. We encourage you to download our smartphone/tablet app for access to sermon notes, “The Buzz” bulletin insert, an online Bible, and much more. If you need a Bible, we’ll have Bibles available on a table at each Worship Center entrance, and the covers will be disinfected after each use.

    • Food Items - Out of an abundance of caution, food items will not be served. Coffee will be available, served by our hospitality team from the outdoor kitchen window on the Highlands patio.

Highlands Kids will not be meeting initially upon our return to in-person gatherings. Children will sit with their families in the worship service. Our Highlands Kids team will be providing activities for kids upon entering the Worship Center, and our services will be designed to be more family-friendly than ever, with additional ways for kids to engage and participate. Watch for details from our Family Ministry team by email in the weeks ahead.

We plan to resume on-campus Highlands Kids and Student ministry programming in August. Additional Highlands Kids and Student ministry programming will continue online throughout the summer.

If you are more at-risk* for the coronavirus, have a compromised immune system, or if you simply feel uncomfortable gathering in person, we would encourage you to participate in our services online at HighlandsChurch.org/Live. Please prayerfully consider the best decision for your family, and know that we'll be here for you - and eager to connect - whether that be in person or through our great online experiences.

Our communications team is always online to interact in real-time via Facebook Live chat, YouTube comments, or on Livestream chat.

*The CDC defines 'at-risk' people as those who are 65 years and older, people who live in a nursing home or long-term care facility, and people of all ages with underlying medical conditions such as lung, heart, kidney or liver disease,  diabetes, or severe obesity. More information is available on the CDC website here.
